The mobile telephone application MESSAGES has been designed for sending pictograms or sequences of pictograms between telephones in order for people with autism and/or intellectual disability to have the opportunity to send messages to their loved ones just as any other person does using SMS or texts.
MESSAGES is devised as an extension of the HELLO communicator, another application which helps the same users to communicate by indicating a pictogram (or sequence of pictograms) which represents what they want to say at any given time, in the presence of another person. MESSAGES offers the same function, but in a remote format, when the two people are in different places and may receive and reply to the messages at different times. Given this connection between the two applications, we only advise using MESSAGES if the user has already learn to work with the HELLO communicator.
